Dike Lights – Wangerland

Wangerland Dike Lights – The Courage to Blaze New Trails
Wangerland Touristik GmbH
For many years, we 'Nordlichter' (Northerners) also celebrated the New Year with fireworks – but for many of us, this is no longer compatible with our connection to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Therefore, for the past two years, we have been calling on guests and locals to gather just before midnight along the approximately 30-kilometer-long dike line of Wangerland and, at exactly midnight, to light various luminous objects instead of setting off fireworks.
Whether it's an oil lamp, wax torch, or string of lights, the focus is on collectively enjoying the moment with a view of the North Sea. This way, the new year is ushered in a decelerated yet enchanting manner, instead of being noisy and environmentally damaging. And the best part: Guests and locals have already taken the Wangerland Dike Lights deeply into their hearts and wouldn't want to miss it!
