BIRGIT BOSIO

Birgit first explored the topic of sustainability during her undergraduate studies as part of her thesis, which focused on a tourism development project in Mexico. Her dissertation at the University of Salzburg also addressed sustainability in tourism, specifically the question of how sustainability can be measured at the destination level. For this, she studied a project in Nepal.

In her role as a professor and researcher, Birgit continues to explore not only how the success of tourism can be measured using economic indicators, but also how social aspects such as diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and gender equality can become factors in tourism’s success. Birgit is part of the World Tourism Organization’s INSTO network and a member of the UN Tourism Panel of Tourism Experts.
