DSTNCMP GOES TO KUFSTEIN IN 2023

July 28, 2022

Kufstein Becomes a Hub for Tourism in the D-A-CH Region

In its 13th year, DestinationCamp is moving from Hamburg to Kufstein

For twelve years, year after year—even amid COVID-19 restrictions—well over 200 representatives from the tourism, hospitality, leisure, technology, science, and platform sectors gathered in Hamburg. From May 9 to 12, 2023, Kufstein will now become the next meeting place for the German-speaking tourism industry. DestinationCamp 2023 is moving from the 1.9-million-strong metropolis on the Elbe to the Tyrolean town on the Inn, which is a hundred times smaller. Under the brand logo DSTNCMP23 , tourism experts will further shape developments in German-speaking vacation regions: Kufstein will become a think tank for tourism inGermany and the Alpine countries.

Kufstein also reflects the shift from a work meeting to a "workation event". The DSTNCMP23 is intended to make this trend tangible for participants while also promoting Tyrol as a workation destination. This portmanteau represents the fusion of work and vacation. Two years of the pandemic, marked by remote work and closed offices, have shown that many jobs can be done from any vacation destination. A change of scenery brings new life experiences and recharges one’s energy. At the same time, the vacation setting clears the mind for new perspectives and acts as a productivity booster for one’s own work.

While a DestinationCamp has traditionally consisted of three compact days with a highly focused agenda held at a conference center, the DSTNCMP23 will chart a new course:

We’re extending DestinationCamp to four days and spreading it across ten unique venues in Kufstein. This will give participants more time for leisure and new experiences in the Kufstein region. And “workation” workspaces will make it easier for visiting executives to stay in touch with their colleagues back home.
Benjamin Buhl, Chief Organizer of the DSTNCMP

Buhl is the managing partner of the organizing company, netzvitamine GmbH, based in Sonthofen. The netzvitamine team launched DestinationCamp 2011. For the past three years, the “industry’s think tank” has operated under the DSTNCMPbrand.

The DSTNCMP23 in Kufstein will thus also meet the changing needs in the business travel segment. In addition to the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association and the City of Kufstein, the Tyrol Convention Bureau and the MCI Innsbruck Management School are also involved in the organization and operation of the DSTNCMP23 . Together, they aim to develop a new approach to a modern conference and convention format that also strongly involves local service providers. The pilot project aims to develop a blueprint for other destinations that do not have extensive infrastructure for trade shows, incentives, conventions, and events (MICE).

Buhl: "Until now, six to nine thematic tracks were spread across meeting rooms in an event center. In Kufstein, we are expanding to ten thematic tracks and spreading them across ten venues throughout the city."

Simply through the movement of participants between sessions, DestinationCamp will have a strong presence in the cityscape, which will naturally lead to interactions between locals and visitors. With the supporting program, our entire city will become DestinationCamp. This will make the collaboration between service providers, influencers, and partners from community organizations and city administration visible to both visitors and locals.
André Lomsky, Executive Director of the Kufsteinerland Tourism Association

Lomsky and Buhl also expect that moving the major event to the small town on the Austrian border will bring new momentum from an increase in participants from Alpine destinations: “This also allows us to meet the desireto include different locations and to schedule more time for exploration, bilateral discussions, and workations.”

Kufstein is easily accessible by train from Austria, Switzerland, and also from northern Germany or Berlin, which is in line with netzvitamine GmbH’s commitment to sustainability.
