Understand, interpret, and strategically use data

Since March 2025, feratel has been utilizing the prototype of its “DMO Performance Monitor.” The keynote for the session “How to Achieve Performance Monitoring,” part of the Digital Shifts theme, offers an initial look at this new feratel tool.

The core idea behind the DMO Performance Monitor is not merely to collect data, but to process it in a way that is contextualized, interpretable, and actionable. The objective is clear: to enable better decisions through clearly visualized real-time data that supports both operational planning and strategic development.

Broad Basis of Structured Data

More than 4,000 Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) across Europe utilize integrated Smart Destination Management solutions from feratel, including Deskline CMS and IRS, guest registration systems, guest card systems, and the PIA guest assistance system. These systems continuously supply structured data that can be processed using modern data warehouse technologies. Standard evaluation capabilities include classic metrics such as overnight stay trends, booking revenues, ticket sales, access data, and various performance indicators.

New Objective: Forecasting Capability

The new DMO Performance Monitor is designed to offer not only live insights but also reliable forecasts, thus providing enhanced value for everyday management. It was developed in close collaboration with pilot destinations and features:

  • Daily forecasts for overnight stays, occupancy, and arrivals, including a comparison with real figures for continuous optimization.
  • Live data on guest structure and guest card usage by origin, age groups, length of stay, distribution within the destination, current access figures, etc.
  • Detailed booking trends with a preview for upcoming arrival periods.
  • Market radar with insights into the most important source markets.

This is made possible by AI-powered analyses of DMO data sources. At feratel, this includes historical data from the booking system with 30 connected booking platforms, availabilities from 170 integrated PMS with real-time occupancy analyses, and historical overnight stay figures.

Impressive: Forecast Accuracy

The prototype has been in use since March 2025 and demonstrates impressive forecast accuracy. Beyond providing live insight into the destination's daily occupancy status, the primary added value lies in more reliable resource planning for services such as ski and hiking buses, restaurants, lift ticket offices, and traffic management.
