MEASURING VISITOR FLOWS - Matthias Traub

Gain Insights Through Analysis: Measure, Understand, and Manage Visitor Flow
Mobility data can serve as the basis for many well-informed strategic decisions. However, it is important to understand the theoretical approaches to analyzing visitor patterns and to be able to apply them to the specific context of destinations or events.
The session “Aha Moments Through the Analysis of Visitor Flows—Measuring, Understanding, and Managing” is aimed atDSTNCMP25 participants who wish to gain a deep understanding of the dynamics of visitor flows and share their own perspectives and experiences.
Data Analysis and Its Practical Applications
Small tourism associations in rural regions face just as many challenges as large urban destinations. As part of this interactive discussion, the session will focus specifically on the host organization Visit Düsseldorf and will also reference larger events (e.g., the Munich Oktoberfest) and various smaller events (e.g., the Deggendorf Danube Festival).
The content and examples are intended not only for organizations that have been working with this data for some time, but also—and in particular—for organizations that have not yet begun working with it or are just getting started.
Theoretical Models and Specific Cases
In addition to an introduction to the fundamentals of various data collection and interpretation methods, participants will discuss theoretical models that help visualize and analyze visitor flow. Our partner, Visit Düsseldorf, will outline how and where mobility data is actually used in day-to-day operations.
Tools for Practical Implementation
In groups , the session participants will develop potential measures to manage visitor flow in a targeted manner based on individual needs, and to identify and address critical issues early on.
The goal is to establish a fundamental understanding and a comprehensive set of tools that enable both the analysis and management of visitor flows in practice.
