Ensuring 'Aha!' moments through analysis: Measuring, understanding, and managing visitor flows

Mobility data can form the basis for many well-founded strategic decisions. However, it is crucial to understand the theoretical approaches to analyzing visitor patterns and to be able to apply them to the specific context of destinations or events.

The session "Aha Moments through Visitor Flow Analysis – Measure, Understand, and Manage" is aimed at DSTNCMP25 participants who wish to gain a deep understanding of visitor flow dynamics and contribute their own perspectives and experiences.

Data Analysis and its Practical Application

Small tourism associations in rural regions face the same challenges as large urban destinations. During the interactive exchange, the session will specifically address the hosts, Visit Düsseldorf, and refer to larger events (e.g., Munich Oktoberfest) or various smaller events (e.g., Donaufest Deggendorf).

The content and examples are not only aimed at organizations that have been working with this data for a long time, but especially at organizations that are not yet working with it or are just starting out.

Theoretical Models and Practical Cases

In addition to an introduction to the fundamentals of various data collection and interpretation methods, theoretical models that help visualize and analyze visitor flow will be discussed collaboratively. Our partner, Visit Düsseldorf, outlines how and where mobility data is specifically used in daily work.

Tools for Practical Implementation

The session participants will work in groups to develop potential measures to specifically manage visitor flow according to individual needs, identify critical points early, and balance them.

The goal is to create a fundamental understanding and a comprehensive set of tools that enable both the analysis and management of visitor flows in practice.
