"Trust is good—control is better." That's what managers in Germany have been taught for generations. "Trust is good—control is more expensive", they say in Denmark. So which is it, really? Following the keynote address at this year’s DSTNCMP²³ , you might say: Both can be true. One person has researched this—keynote speaker Eva Schulte-Austum.

We are delighted to have her on board —she is known as “Germany’s No. 1 Trust Expert” on ARD, ZDF, WDR, NDR, Sat 1, and other media outlets. With a degree in business psychology, she advises companies on leadership, change, and new ways of working. As a business coach, she helps corporations, NGOs, and SMEs establish a culture of trust in which employees are motivated, enjoy their work, voluntarily take on responsibility, and actively shape change.

And: “Anyone can trust, ” as she demonstrates in her book of the same name. To that end, as a “trust researcher,” she hasconducted morethan 350 interviews in nine countries where the general happiness index is significantly higher than in Germany.

EvaSchulte-Austum tells her story in a lively and captivating way, pepperedwith anecdotes from Vietnam, Canada, the U.S., and Denmark. Based on conversations with other trust researchers, politicians, business leaders, and journalists in these countries , she developed nine proven strategies for how anyone can build trust. In relationships, in companies, at the service counter, in projects, processes, and committee work—the same principle always applies: “Trust is a tangible, measurable value that plays a decisive role in determining success today and, above all, in the future.”
