Alpsee-Grünten Mobil – the Ringbus
Alpsee-Grünten Tourism, LLC
Integrating different modes of transportation across municipal boundaries is one of the most challenging requirements for sustainable mobility concepts. What other destinations have demonstrated on a large scale is gaining increasing traction on a smaller scale as well. The Ringbus is a good example of this: This entirely new bus line connects five cities and municipalities in the Alpsee-Grünten vacation region every hour. The project is funded by visitor taxes. Guests and second-home owners ride for free. For locals, there’s an affordable resident pass for 9.95 euros per month. Spontaneous travelers and day-trippers can use the Ringbus line with a day pass for 9 euros.

The “Ringbus” of the Alpsee-Grünten vacation region is the winner of the first-everDSTNCMP Challenge Cup for exemplary projects in tourism. The award was presented in late April during the 12th DestinationCamp in Hamburg by approximately 240 tourism experts and professionals from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and South Tyrol. They selected “Alpsee-Grünten Mobil – the Ringbus” as the winner by a large majority. Kathrin Dürr and Benjamin Bichler from Alpsee-Grünten Tourismus GmbH (AGT), who accepted the trophy in Hamburg, were thrilled by the positive response.

Integrating different modes of transportation across municipal boundaries is one of the most difficult hurdles in developing sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility options. This is especially true since public transportation is typically managed by the counties. The “Ringbus,” launched in December 2020, is a good example of how small steps and persistent cooperation can lead to major improvements and sustainable solutions for the environment, according to the jury’s statement when selecting the finalists for theDSTNCMP Award.
The Ringbus line connects the five towns and municipalities of Sonthofen, Immenstadt, Rettenberg, Blaichach, and Burgberg every hour. The schedule for these public transit connections has been coordinated so that all five locations are served ten times a day, allowing passengers to access connecting train and bus lines without needing their own car. The project is funded by tourist taxes and funds from the municipalities and the district. Visitors and second-home owners ride for free. For locals, there is an affordable annual pass for 119.40 euros, which works out to 9.95 euros per month.
The award includes five days of consulting services from the renowned Lufthansa Industry Solutions AS GmbH.
