Apprenticeship Despite Lockdown
PriMa Kleinwalsertal (PriMa = Priority Employees)
How do you learn a profession when the business is closed due to Corona lockdowns? Many apprentices in the hotel and gastronomy sectors, and partly in retail, faced this challenge. A group of businesses in Kleinwalsertal, supported by the "PriMa – Priority Employees" initiative from Kleinwalsertal Tourism, decided to "just do it" and quickly set up a cross-company and cross-industry apprenticeship training program (professional & personal). 15 training companies with 27 apprentices participated. This successfully qualified young professionals and secured them for industries already struggling to find skilled workers.

The "Apprenticeship Despite Lockdown" project impressively demonstrates the power within the network of hotels, destinations, and partners/suppliers. Thanks to this collaboration, we were able to quickly create and implement a comprehensive, creative training program for apprentices. All involved parties fully contributed their strengths – almost entirely free of charge. The dynamism and enthusiasm with which we collaborated carried us through the lockdown, giving us purpose and motivation to continue. For us, it was a "look-up" during this time, and the experience of what is possible when you just do it was immense. Thanks to everyone who poured their heart and energy into it! It was amazing – and we would love to expand it further. Winning the DSTNCMP award helps us do this in an even more professional way.
