CONCLUSION #DCHH16

Creating Value Through Appreciation

The conclusion of the sixth DestinationCamp calls our attitude into question: Do we show appropriate appreciation for the people around us and the (tourism-related) products we sell and buy?

"Change starts with us" —with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce as the new venue, as well as the further development and restructuring of the sessions' content, last year’s conclusions were put into action and numerous requests for improvement from participants were addressed.

Even though this was now the sixth DestinationCamp, every time it’s somehow different, exciting, and fresh. In addition to the historic location, the city tour on the red double-decker buses, the performance by Ticos with their fantastic, rock-infused folk music that put everyone in a great mood, and poetry slammer Mona Harry—who moved more than a few participants to tears with her declaration of love for the North—were among the absolute highlights of #dchh16.

Overall Summary for 2016

What was particularly telling, however, was that—quite independently of one another and in various ways—one concept had already come strikingly to the forefront at the start of the first sessions: appreciation —and the related question of whether we show the necessary appreciation to the people we work with or who work for us, to our guests, and also to the (tourism) products we sell and buy?

Building on key points from the keynote, Stefan and Thorsten drew the overall conclusion of #dchh16 today: Value creation through appreciation.

Only when we value each other and our products appropriately will we be able to overcome the challenges we face and act and operate in a sustainable manner.

You'll find a comprehensive summary and a detailed breakdown of the key takeaways from this year's DestinationCamp in the new Werkschau, which will arrive fresh off the press in your mailbox in July.

Without YOU, DestinationCamp wouldn't be possible

We are very proud of the event that DestinationCamp has grown into today. Without the tireless efforts of many hardworking people—both in front of and, above all, behind the scenes—the event would not be possible on this scale—and that is why WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR HEARTFELT THANKS to:

  • To all participants for the great atmosphere, their active and creative participation in the sessions, and the fantastic results!
  • all partners and supporters who are helping to continuously develop DestinationCamp and make it even better again in 2017
  • To all the moderators, mind mappers, and session facilitators—thank you for your support and great ideas!
  • Florian Gold, for the inspiring keynote address at the kickoff event on Friday evening
  • the panel discussion guests: Kathrin Dürr, Michael Buller, Thorsten Teschner, Achim Schloemer, Olaf Stehr, and Martin Spantig
  • The entire Silberstern team: Bernhard, Anne, and Richie, for their creativity, hosting, interviews, and all the video segments and clips
  • Christine Schöler and her team for producing the numerous printed materials, flags, polo shirts, and hoodies
  • To all the Helping Hands, for pitching in, your team spirit, and your incredible focus on finding solutions—not to mention your consistently cheerful attitude
  • Ansgar and Timm from VARGO for the awesome sound, for the tech, sound, and lighting—and especially for troubleshooting ;)
  • Panem et Salis for a culinary delight and great service
  • Johannes, for capturing so many beautiful moments (all the photos will be compiled into a Flickr album and published sometime in May)
  • the Climate Sponsors for their great cooperation and the pilot project,
  • the wine-rich state of Rhineland-Palatinate for the pleasant evenings, as well as the "Rote Doppeldecker" as one of the highlights on Saturday night
  • everyone else who has not been mentioned by name here.

Last but not least: the video recap of the third day and the overall summary of DestinationCamp 2016 are presented by Traum-Ferienwohnungen, feratel media technologies, and easybooking.
