Alpsee-Grünten Mobil – The Ring Bus
Alpsee-Grünten Tourism GmbH
Connecting transport providers across municipal boundaries is one of the most challenging prerequisites for sustainable mobility concepts. What other destinations have demonstrated on a large scale is gaining increasing traction on a smaller scale. The Ringbus is a good example of this: This completely new bus line connects five towns and communities in the Alpsee-Grünten holiday region hourly. The project is financed by visitor's taxes. Guests and second-home owners travel for free. For locals, there is an attractively priced resident ticket for 9.95 Euros per month. Spontaneous travelers and day-trippers can use the Ringbus line with a day ticket for 9 Euros.
Winner of the DSTNCMP-Award²²

The "Ringbus" of the Alpsee-Grünten holiday region is the winner of the inaugural DSTNCMP-Challenge Cup for exemplary tourism projects. The award was presented at the end of April during the 12th DestinationCamp in Hamburg by approximately 240 tourism experts and professionals from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and South Tyrol. They selected "Alpsee-Grünten Mobil – the Ringbus" by a large majority as the winner. Kathrin Dürr and Benjamin Bichler from Alpsee-Grünten Tourismus GmbH (AGT), who accepted the trophy in Hamburg, were thrilled by the positive reception.

The networking of transport providers across municipal boundaries is one of the most difficult hurdles in developing sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility options. Especially since public transport is usually managed by the districts. The "Ringbus," introduced in December 2020, is a good example that small steps and persistent collaboration can lead to significant improvements and sustainable solutions for the environment, according to the jury's reasoning, which selected the finalists for the DSTNCMP-Award.
The Ringbus line connects the five towns and communities of Sonthofen, Immenstadt, Rettenberg, Blaichach, and Burgberg hourly. The timing of the public transport connections has been coordinated so that all five locations are served ten times daily, and connecting train and bus lines can be reached without a private car. The project is financed by visitor's taxes and funds from the municipalities and the district. Guests and second-home owners travel for free. For locals, there is an attractively priced annual pass for 119.40 Euros, equivalent to 9.95 Euros per month.
The award includes five consulting days from the renowned Lufthansa Industry Solutions AS GmbH.

For 2nd place in the DSTNCMP-Preis22, tourism professionals in Hamburg selected the project "Teaching despite Lockdown" by Kleinwalsertal Tourismus. Bad Hindelang Tourismus took 3rd place with "Localhood – Guests become locals for a time".
